There are two main methods of ventilating subjects. Volume controlled ventilation uses either a Starling type pump comprising of a piston/cylinder arrangement which allows the volume and respiratory rate to be adjusted independently. The pressure controlled method employs a pressure sensor to determine the time of inspiration and expiration. For starling volume cycled/controlled ventilators, please click here. CWE SAR 830A/P
Standard Features
A built-in solid-state transducer monitors airway pressure. The operator simply dials-in the desired end-inspiratory pressure. During inspiration, airflow is introduced to the lungs until this pressure is reached, at which point inspiration is terminated. This mode is especially convenient with small subjects where accidental hyperinflation of the lungs can be a problem. An analogue output for the pressure signal is provided for external recording.
