Isolated Organ System

Langendorff and Working Mode

IH System

The Isolated Perfused Heart is widely used to investigate a broad variety of questions both in physiological-pharmacological research and in pharmacological screening.  Although it is primarily used to acutely investigate drug effects, it is also used with pre-treated hearts.

Applications include:

  • Testing inotropic substances
  • Testing vasoactive substances
  • Testing cardiac rhythm (chronotropic and arryhmogenic effects)
  • Assessment of the refractory period
  • Biochemical Investigations

We offer complete setups for retrograde perfusion under constant pressure (CP) or constant flow (CF) (LANGENDORFF preparation). These units can be extended to working heart systems (WH) (according to NEELY).

The isolated heart setup is available in 5 different versions.  The basic difference is the variation in the size of the hearts which can be used.  There is also a major difference between size 3 and the others.  The size 3 system uses a bulb oxygenator, whereas the other systems use pre-oxygenation by bubbling.

The following systems are available:

Isolated Heart Size 1 (for murine heart)
Body Weight (kg)
Heart Weight (g)
Diameter of Aortic Cannula (mm)
Max CO in Working Heart Mode (ml/min)

The Hugo Sachs systems we offer, are of the highest quality.  Unlike other cheaper systems, you don't just get a load of glassware, you get a system which has been thoroughly researched and tested and which you know will work from the start.
