Instech’s OrchesTA™ Infusion Automation system was developed over several years in close collaboration with CROs to automate preclinical infusion toxicology studies. Built not around pieces of hardware or software, but rather the processes of GLP infusion studies, the system is comprised of validated control and monitoring software that runs on a Windows® 7 PC, a simple robust wireless network that can be run by technicians without IT experience, and clinical-grade pumps.

Features

Automated Programming. All pump programming for multiple dose groups across the entire study duration can be performed in less than twenty minutes during study setup. Users need not calculate and enter settings directly into each pump daily. Flow rates are updated automatically by importing new weight tables.



Test Article Edge Tracking. This patented* feature of the OrchesTA software calculates and records the exact time that test article enters enter the subject and the time that the dose is complete when switching from saline to test article and back to saline for an intermittent dose. These are time consuming manual calculations, particularly when flow rates vary due to subject weights.

Centralized Monitoring. All pumps are displayed real-time on a single PC monitor.  Pump alarms are displayed on the monitor in red. Less serious alerts are displayed in yellow. Users may monitor all pumps at a glance, or select individual pumps for detailed status data.



Email or Text Message Alerts. Alarms and alerts can be transmitted via SMS text message and email. Remote alarming reduces the amount of on-site monitoring required by valuable personnel.  Sophisticated templates make sure the right staff member receives alerts in an appropriate timeframe without creating SPAM.

PK/TK Scheduling. OrchesTA™ simplifies complex scheduling of PK/TK blood samples. Based on user inputs, the software schedules all samples and automatically adjusts flow rates so that test article is delivered to each subject at the intended time.



Automated Documentation. OrchesTA’s electronic documentation replaces all handwritten documentation. Validated for GLP and Part 11 compatibility, the software records every software and pump interaction and event with time/date and user ID stamps. The system computes and compiles infusion study data into numerous formatted final reports.

Robust Wireless Network. OrchesTA wireless is secure network designed specifically for the challenges of preclinical laboratories. It uses the IEEE 802.15.4 standard which is meant for a high number of small devices, low power consumption and low bandwidth — exactly what is needed for a network of infusion pumps. By comparison, Wi-Fi is designed for high bandwidth and requires more power, and Bluetooth is meant for a small number of devices at close range.
