Biopac OXY100E - SPO2 Pulse Oximeter

The OXY100E measures beat-by-beat, blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) level in a noninvasive fashion. The OXY100E outputs four signals simultaneously:

  • A: SpO2 value (Ch 1, 2, 3, or 4)
  • B: Pulse Plethysmogram (Ch 5, 6, 7, or 8)
  • C: Heart pulse rate (Ch 9, 10, 11, or 12)
  • D: Module Status ( Ch 13, 14, 15, or 16)

These signals are directed to switchable blocks of different MP input channels. Up to four OXY100E modules can be used with a single MP System. The OXY100E has built-in calibration for a simplified setup procedure. Each OXY100E module requires one of the TSD124 series SpO2 transducers.

The OXY100E operates in accordance to the principles outlined by the Lambert-Beer law; this an empirical relationship that relates the absorption of light to the properties of the material through which the light is traveling.

The OXY100E is a noninvasive instrument which measures blood-oxygen percentage levels. The OXY100E probe incorporates light-emitting diodes (LEDs) which face photodiodes through a translucent part of the subject's body, usually a fingertip or an earlobe. One LED is red, with wavelength of 660 nm, and the other is infrared (approximately 910 nm). Light absorption at these wavelengths is different between oxyhemoglobin and its deoxygenated form. The oxyhemoglobin/deoxyhemoglobin ratio can be calculated via the ratio of the absorption of the red and infrared light. In particular, the OXY100E outputs (as a proportional voltage) the percentage of arterial hemoglobin in the oxyhemoglobin state.

Calibration Mode

Modules will use default values until a manual calibration is performed using the recessed "Cal" button on the module and the "Scaling" dialog in AcqKnowledge.

Quick overview

“Press and hold” the recessed "Cal" button for ~1.5 seconds to cycle the OXY100E modes from“Normal” to “Calibration Low” to “Calibration High” and then back to “Normal.”

  "Normal" mode "Status" LEDS = GREEN OFF and YELLOW OFF (yellow may occasionally flicker due to background processing)

   “Cal Low” mode "Status" LEDs = CONSTANT GREEN ON and YELLOW OFF

   “Cal High” mode "Status" LEDs = GREEN OFF and CONSTANT YELLOW ON

As soon as the mode is changed, release the "Cal" button. Continuously holding the button in the depressed state will not lead to another mode change.
